ENISALA’S FORTRESS MUSEUM

The Enisala fortress, the only medieval fortress in Dobrogea, is located on Dealul Gras, near the town of Enisala. It is a fortress built in the second half of the 14th century. Archaeological research has revealed that the Genoese merchants would have been the only ones interested in erecting such a monument. At that time, they had control over navigation in the Danube Delta – Black Sea area. To keep this aspect in check, they erected a fortress that had political, military and road observation purposes.

There is also a second version of the construction of the medieval fortress at Enisala. In the 14th century, the region of Dobrogea was under the auspices of the Golden Horde, so it is not excluded that the edifice was built by a Tatar prince. Today, visitors can step into Enisala Citadel and the citadel museum, which exhibits a series of facts and moments from the history of this objective.
