THE IPOTEȘTI MEMORIAL – ‘MIHAI EMINESCU’ NATIONAL CENTER FOR STUDIES

Ipotești is a geographical symbol of Romanian national culture, being the birthplace of the poet Mihai Eminescu. He was born in the Eminovici family on January 15, 1850. Eminescu’s childhood home is the main focus of the Ipotești Memorial. Outside, you can see the old village church and Eminovici’s family church, next to which are the graves of the poet’s parents and two of his brothers.

Ipotești has, in fact, become a complex cultural space. A village house built in the Moldavian style now houses the Ethnography Museum of the National Center for Studies at Ipotești. It exhibits objects from different households in the Ipotești area. The ‘Mihai Eminescu’ Museum illustrates the place of Mihai Eminescu’s childhood in accordance with his biography. In order to better illustrate this aspect of his memory, the Ipotești Documentary Fund has been set up, with period photographs, manuscripts, correspondence, and notes dating from the second half of the 19th century.
