‘HORTENSIA PAPADAT BENGESCU’ MEMORIAL HOUSE
The place where the author Hortensia Papadat Bengescu (1876-1955) was born was initially a military campaign headquarters. This building was her home up until she was 2 years old, when the family moved to Tecuci. Little Hortensia received an education prone to music and literature. Her love for theatre was instilled by her uncle.
The family home was, over time, a military office, wine technical school, veterinary clinic and even post office. In 2006, the transfer of the house to the Galați Museum of History’s heritage was claimed. Three years later, on 20 July 2009, the memorial house was inaugurated. Here there are exhibited objects and documentary materials that once belonged to Hortensia Papadat Bengescu. With the opening of the museum, the exhibition ‘Ivești’s Personalities’ was launched.
