CHILIA VILLAGE HOUSE (closed for renovation)

The village house in Chilia is a preserved in-situ museum, built in the first part of the 20th century. Its architecture is characteristic of the Țara Codrului ethnographic area. The household was built of logs on a broken stone foundation and consisted of a house, shed and a food pantry (găbănaș). As for the house, it consists of four rooms: the “clean” room, the awning, the living room and the pantry dedicated to food storage under which the cellar is located.

The room facing the street exhibits pieces of furniture specific to the area. In the awning is a bread oven with an open chimney (the smoke went into the attic). The living room houses a bed, a wardrobe and a sideboard, as well as some popular costumes. The Codrenian Chilia house was purchased from the David family in 1968 by the Satu Mare County Museum.
