ANDRID VILLAGE HOUSE
The village house Andrid is located in the village of the same name, on Valea Ierului. It is a house made of clay soil pounded with may, in wooden formwork and covered with reeds. It was most likely built between 1860 – 1880, by Botos Sándor and acquired by the Satu Mare County Museum in 2010 from the owners Kis Károly and Kis (Botos) Ilona. After two years of restoration, it was opened to the public in 2012.
The museum collection in the Andrid village house was completed by objects collected from people’s attics, but a substantial number was donated from her own household by Maria Dunca, former nurse in the village, current supervisor of the house-museum. Her profession gave her the chance to be in contact with the villagers who had collected objects specific to village life.
The Andrid village house consists of four rooms: the “clean” room, the awning, the living room and the former stable (today, the tool room). The front room was the clean room or the one where the newly married couple or the youngest child of the family usually lived. Objects of daily life are exhibited here: the lamp with lace, icons, the chest with clothes and wipes, the cradle for children, beds with mattress filled with straws, pillows. The awning is set up like a kitchen, here is the stove with earthenware, the bread oven and a corner for personal hygiene. The living room today houses the fisherman’s net, the woven reed bed, reed chairs, the reed bread basket, but also a hemp corner showing the different stages of hemp processing.
