‘NICOLAE LABIȘ’ MEMORIAL HOUSE

The poet Nicolae Labiș (1935-1956) moved into this house, together with his parents, when he was 10 years old. The little house situated in the centre of the village stands out with its blue woodwork and the roof made out of shingle. The poet stayed here, in Mălini, for a short period of time, but he managed to write some of his works. For example, ‘Moartea căprioarei’ was created during one night, in the bedroom of this house. Nicolae Labiș was 21 years old when he passed away, in Bucharest, due to an accident.

In 1973, Profira și Eugen Labiș, Nicolae’s parents, donated their house to the Ministry of Culture. Two years later this house became a museum. The authentic objects (furniture, photographs, books, clothes and documents) successfully recreate the atmosphere of almost one century ago.
