‘IOAN AVRAM DUNĂREANU’ RURAL HOUSE

The ‘Ioan Avram Dunăreanu’ house from Suhurlui, embellished with a porch and a verandah, was founded by Andone and Maria Avram, complying with the architecture of the area. Their son, Ioan Avram Dunăreanu, was very fond of the literary and artistic domains and completed the museum collection. While he was travelling through Romania he gathered materials that were representative of Romanian traditional culture. In 1997 he inaugurated the museum and ten years later he decided to donate the house and the heritage to the Galați History Museum.

The rural house that has the name of its spiritual father was inaugurated on 10 October 2009. It has two big rooms – the good one and the daily use one – and other two small, in the back – the kitchen with a firehouse and the one with a loom. After these, one can enter the crafts’ space, the smithy and carpentry workshop, whose objects are collected from the village.
