BILCA HOUSE MUSEUM

In 2000, the writers George Muntean and Adela Popescu donated this household to the Bucovina National Museum. The house and the household annexes (the stable, the gate, the wooden fence and the balance-well) represent the particular architecture and the organisation of the living space specific to the ethnographic area of Rădăuți, Bucovina. The interior is arranged with rural furniture, fabrics, icons, household tools. Some of these things belonged to the family and some were collected by the writer.

George Muntean (1932-2004) was born in Bilca and he was a writer and folklorist. He married the poet Adela Popescu and together they arranged the family’s home so it could be open to visitors. The writer is the co-author of the only monograph of Bilca village and he published over 3000 articles, essays and studies. He passed away in 2004 and, according to his wish, he was buried in the village cemetery.
