ORAȘU NOU LOCAL MUSEUM

The local museum in Orașu Nou houses a household displaced from the area of the church in the village, which belonged to Erdei Erzsébet. It was brought to the main road to facilitate access for visitors. It is a house specific to the Hungarian community, the majority in Orașu Nou. It was designed and inaugurated in 2009 and consists of an awning, organized as a cooking space, and two rooms — the “clean” room is the one from the street with pieces of rustic furniture, next to the living room with beds, a bench, a war loom and a buffet with a showcase.

The house is made of oak and slatted wood, with a porch and a gazebo. On its lower level is a double cellar at the front. The first area was dedicated to the pressing of grapes, and the back one had the role of storing wine barrels. This house structure provides details regarding the activities of the villagers in the area. The hills around the village are favorable for the cultivation of vines, and then the peasants take care of the production of wine in their households.

At the local Orașu Nou Museum, important events for the Hungarian community take place: the Farsang celebration (when winter is “buried”), the Shrove Tuesday of Easter, the Hungarian Dance Camp in July, Saint Marin and Harvest Day.
